Sash windows in Hampton
Rotten sills, sash frames, porches and mouldings repaired and brought back rather than ripped out and replaced in plastic. We have been doing this work in Hampton and the streets around it for decades.
Riverside cottages, Victorian and Edwardian terraces off Station Road, and 1930s semis towards Nurserylands. That mix shapes how we approach sash window and timber restoration here: the preparation is the job, and the topcoat is what you see at the end of it.
A sash window that has been painted shut for twenty years is not a write-off. In most of the houses we work on the timber is better than anything you could buy new, it just needs the rot cut out, the joints made good, the beads freed off and a proper paint system putting back on.
We cut out soft timber back to sound wood, splice in new where a section has gone, treat, fill and prime, then finish in an exterior eggshell that flexes with the frame. Glazing putty is replaced where it has failed. Where the sash has been painted shut, we cut the seal and free the runs so the window works again.
Hampton is home, so it is the area we know best. Between the riverside cottages near Hampton Court, the Edwardian and Victorian terraces off Station Road and the interwar semis spreading towards Hampton Nurserylands, we have worked on most of the housing types here more than once, often the same house twice, a decade apart.
